Spring & summer

Spring in the Harz region of Germany is a time of renewal and rejuvenation, as the winter landscape transforms to vibrant green. The forests burst into life with the blooming of wildflowers and the cheerful chirping of birds.

Hiking and cycling are popular outdoor activities during this season. Much of the Harz is a protected nature reserve in which outdoor enthusiasts can enjoy themselves. In the warmer months, hikers get their fill and follow the extensive network with 9,000 kilometres of hiking trails.

Mountain bikers will also find their ideal route with different levels of difficulty at 2,200 km of trails. Individual mountain bike routes are accessible from Bad Sachsa as well as the 74 routes of the Volksbank-Arena-Harz.

The crystal-clear waters of the rivers and lakes beckon for kayaking and fishing. As the weather warms up, picnics in the meadows and strolls through quaint villages become common pastimes, making spring a truly magical time to visit the Harz.

Autumn & winter

Due to its high altitude, Bad Sachsa is also a true paradise for cross-country skiers, snowboarders and tobogganists in winter. Bad Sachsa's ski resort is located on its home mountain, the Ravensberg with a 4,400-metre downhill route network. The mountain offers nine runs and three lifts, downhill mild to moderate difficulty.

In addition, you will find slopes for passionate cross-country skiers, which connect to the 42 km Südharzloipe. Snow-shoe hikes through the beautiful winter landscape are also possible. On the forest toboggan run, even small winter sports fans can enjoy the descents. For apres ski, visit the Ravensberg-Alm or one of the cosy bars in Bad Sachsa.
